Focus: Magnolias for Her

Just because the Magnolias are outline images doesn't mean you always have to color them. Here I masked and stamped the flowers using clear Versamark ink, and embossed them in gold. Next I trimmed certain parts and cut out a frame around the flowers. I created the background using blue-green watercolors. The sentiment was embossed in gold once the watercolor paper was dry. The frame was attached to card base using foam tape.
Here is another example of using these flowers without coloring them. Once again I masked and stamped the flowers, but this time using Black pigment ink. Next I covered the flowers using Elmer's Rubber cement in order for them to resist the watercolor. Once it was dry, I applied some yellow and orange colors. The rubber cement is easily removed using an eraser or by rubbing with a fingertip. This technique was taught by Jennifer Mcguire in the Watercolor online card classes that is ongoing at the moment.
For this card, I water colored on of the Magnolia flowers. I stamped the flower using a very light ink, and sketched out the branch. To color the flowers, I first dampened each petal with water, then applied color. I made sure each petal was dry before I colored an adjacent one. I applied light blue color all around the flower to create some depth. The sentiment was embossed in gold and the panel was attached to a white card base.
Jen designed this bright and beautiful card. The bold stripes are strips of card stock that were adhered at an angle. Do you see the interesting debossed area behind the flower? This was done by stamping the flower onto chipboard, cutting around it (leaving a gap), and then running it trough a die cutting machine with an embossing mat. The Magnolia flower was then stamped on the debossed section and colored. To finish off the card, Jen sewed across the top. Love the effect!
