Design Inspiration: Patterns, Tangrams
Creative Ideas:
It is so much fun to experiment with these shapes to create geometric designs! To make my card, I randomly stamped triangles and parallelograms in shades of mint, coral, moss, grey, and black. I had intended on covering the entire front panel, but stopped early so that I had a perfect space to stamp my sentiment! For more visual interest, I die cut an arc and popped that part up off of the black card base.
Creating a masculine card is a breeze with this set! I wanted to mimic the look of argyle down the side of my card, so I used a combination of both the solid and open rhombus stamps. I stamped "celebrate" with white ink, then added the rest of the sentiment on a strip of white cardstock. I was SO close to adding a few white sequins, but my husband assured me that the card would no longer be masculine if I glued them on! :)
Have you ever played with Tangrams? A tangram is a Chinese game containing wooden shapes that you use to solve picture puzzles. You can easily find hundreds of designs online using the seven tangram shapes. To make my card, I watercolored the background, allowed it to dry, then embossed the shapes to create a cat/fox (use your imagination!). I went back with some light grey watercolor to fill in some of the shapes so that they would stand out, then applied it to a yellow card base. The sentiment strip is popped up for added dimension.
Since the shapes in this set were designed to fit well with each other, it is easy to make patterns with them. In this card, the negative of a flower die cut was used as a mask, and the inside was stamped with a random pattern in various colors.
Simple Shapes is one of those sets that gets more fun to use as you play around with it! We can't wait to see what you create!
